Children ages 12-15 are now eligible to receive Pfizer vaccines

CASPER, WYOMING (May 13, 2021) – Following clearance from the Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control as well as the Wyoming Department of Health, the Casper-Natrona County Health Department is now administering Pfizer COVID-19 vaccinations to anyone 12 and over, beginning today.

The inclusion of children ages 12-15 to vaccine eligibility is another important step in Natrona County’s fight against COVID. While children typically show less severe symptoms, there have been cases of serious complications from the disease, and its long-term impacts remain unclear. Additionally, the virus will become more contained as more people are inoculated.

“The extensive tests and studies that the FDA and other governing bodies have done on this group prove that Pfizer is safe for kids, and that it’s effective in decreasing risk of catching, spreading and preventing serve complications of
COVID-19,” CNCHD Public Information Officer Hailey Bloom said. “Vaccines are the best way to beat the virus, both for adults and for kids,” she said.

The COVID Vaccine Center (CVC) at the former Macy’s inside the Eastridge Mall will be extending regular hours to better accommodate students. Today, May 13th it is open from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m., May 18th from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. and May 21st from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a guardian, whose signature is required for a vaccination.

Appointments for anyone 12 and up are available now at https://caspervcovid.com/vaccine/. Walk-ins at the CVC are accepted, but appointments are encouraged. While Pfizer is currently the only brand approved for anyone under 18, anyone 18 and over can schedule an appointment for the vaccine of your choice.

“As we start thinking about summer gatherings and vacations and even next school year, getting your family vaccinated is the best way to make sure we can stay healthy and open,” Bloom said
