This is an introductory professional position responsible for field and office work involving the promotion of environmental/public health and the enforcement of environmental health laws and regulations. The employee may conduct field surveys and assume responsibility for a wide variety of inspections and investigational activities in addition to providing the public with information and technical assistance for the purpose of advancing improved community/environmental health conditions. Individual initiative for problem resolution is among the general requirements and duties assigned.
Specific Duties and Functions:
Duties performed include: evaluating and assessing environmental health conditions for food service establishment, schools, pools/spas, motels, campgrounds, tattoo parlors and shared responsibilities with the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality on individual on-site wastewater disposal systems. The principal means of assessment will be through inspections for the purpose of determining compliance with public health laws and regulations pertaining to their operation.
Follow written and oral instructions, as well as complete routine tasks independently. Demonstrate basic computer skills. Possess problem solving and planning skills, as well as the ability to assess situations thoroughly and make appropriate decisions based on quantitative/qualitative data and sound judgment. Read, write and speak English.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
Successfully complete immunization review on hire.
Successfully complete drug screening on hire.
Successfully complete Background and Central Registry Check.
Possess a valid driver’s license.
Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public.
Previous experience with environmental health or public health topics.
Bachelors in environmental health or public health.
Thirty semester hours in the physical and biological/medical sciences with fifteen semester hours in public health.
Work experience with increasing level of accountability and responsibility.
This position reports to the Program Manager/Director of the Environmental Health Division.
ADA Essential Requirements:
Vision adequate for daily work, corrected vision of 20/40- on the Sneller scale.
Hearing adequate for daily work corrected hearing of 30 decibels on the 1000, 2000 frequency scale.
Must have the ability to lift twenty pounds from floor to waist level.

This position requires availability as needed during community emergencies.
