Position Description:

The Public Health Nurse will perform public health nursing at the Casper Natrona County Health Department. The Public Health Nurse will provide nursing care and related nursing services in a variety of specified departments.  

This position will focus on Adult Health Services.  

CNCHD expects the nurse to participate and collaborate with other community organizations serving the same client population.  This position may participate in epidemiological (vaccine preventable) investigations.  The employee in this position will become competent in public health emergency preparedness activities.  

Specific Duties and Functions:

  • Ability to assess patients in physical, mental, emotional, environmental and community health.
  • Able to collect necessary data through direct observation, patient report, care giver reports when applicable and other providers as available.  
  • Participates in analyzing and planning coordinated nursing services in an assigned area as appropriate.
  • Gives skilled nursing care to patients requiring professional nursing service; gives prescribed medications and other treatments as appropriate.
  • Participates in coordinating total clinic services in the interest of the patient.
  • Provides for continuity of effective patient and family care by exchanging information and cooperating with workers of other community health and welfare agencies concerned such as hospitals, schools, and industries.
  • Assists patients and families in achieving healthful, safe living for all age groups by giving instructions and guidance in the basic principles relating to accident prevention, communicable disease control, nutrition, child growth and development, and physical and emotional fitness.  Work includes from birth to end of life. 
  • Also required to perform other duties assigned in other departments.  

Prerequisites:  

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.  
  • Licensed to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the state.  

Preferred:

  • Experience with public health programs

ADA Essential Requirements:

  • Vision adequate for daily work, corrected vision of 20/40- on the Sneller scale.
  • Hearing adequate for daily work corrected hearing of 30 decibels on the 1000, 2000 frequency scale.
  • The ability to lift twenty pounds from floor to waist level.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, bending and reaching.  
  • Reasonable accommodations will be addressed, based on the position description.  

Potential Hazards:

  • Potential exposures to communicable disease from direct/or indirect personal contact.
  • Use of vehicles/or equipment.
  • Variety of environmental conditions both inside and outside at work sites.
  • Injury due to awkward positions and prolonged computer work.  
  • Exposure to chemical agents, to include reagents, sanitizers and other chemicals that may be associated with routine and incidental assignments.
